Mel Gibson, Kevin Costner, Charlie Sheen, Pierce Brosnan, Tom Selleck and Bill Murray were all considered for the first Batman movie.
The signing of Michael Keaton as Batman caused a mini riot in the fan circles. The producers at Warner Bros. received 50,000 angry fan letters demanding that Michael Keaton be replaced, immediately.
Thankfully, Tim Burton did not back down. Guess that's what being a Director is all about, taking a stand against all odds when it really matters.
